Even though students study European History as part of the World History in 6th and 7th grade, most commonly, European History is studied in high school as part of the AP (Advanced Placement) courses offered by the College Board.

This course is usually taken by students interested in European History and it covers the period from 1450 to present.

The AP exam has 2 sections. The first section includes 55 multiple-choice questions, that need to be completed in 55 minutes, and three short answer questions that need to be finished in 40 minutes. The second section comprises 2 essay responses. The essay questions are structured as one thematic Long Essay Question to be completed in 40 minutes and the other one is Document Based Question which needs to be completed in 60 minutes.
